Antique Japanese 6 Drawer Kiri Wood (paulownia) Ko-dansu Tansu Chest Lock & Key
Known as a kiri-kodansu (small personal tansu chest), this tansu chest was made of solid paulownia kiri wood and used over 110 years ago in the late Meiji Era c. There are two locking drawers both of which are still operable with the use of the key provided (see picture 9). This tansu chest is made of solid kiri. (paulownia) wood with pegged-tenon open-mortise corner box joint. All the hardware is hand tooled copper. This chest has all its 11o year old. This tansu chest has a total of six drawers of various sizes. All drawers move easily without binding, and it comes complete with key used to lock the two operable locking drawers (see pictures 9). This chest has a century plus old original warm aged patina and, having been used lovingly over the centuries, it remains in fine original antique condition.
