Antique Japanese Cherry Blossom Kimono 19. C Edo Authentic Uchikake Overcoat White Red Green. A fine, sheer, silk damask antique late Edo uchikake featuring woven cranes, painted matsu-pine, ume-plum blossom which firmly places the scene in Japan. The inherent qualities of the materials, such as the lustrous off-white silk damask ground, and techniques used on this uchikake increase the reflection of light and lend great radiance to the auspicious landscape.
The trio of plum blossom, bamboo and pine are considered in Japan as the'three friends of winter' who are faithful to each other during difficult times. This is one of the best kimonos in terms of superior artistry, rarity and condition.
The Japanese rightly considered kimonos to be works of art, often using them to hang over screens and decorate their rooms. Collectors and wearers worldwide agree. Such slight imperfections that exist within many of the rare and unique garment art-pieces show-cased in our store are considered understandable and acceptable to most.
