A Japanese Middle Edo Period Ko-Imari Vase with Karakusa Pattern 19.5 cm Tall

Please read the whole description! On offer is a Japanese Ko-Imari Vase (Sake Bottle). It is approximately 19.5 cm tall and the diameter at its widest point is 8.5 cm.

Hand-painted with Cobalt Oxide forming a very popular pattern called Karakusa. Imari is/was produced in the Hizen area (today's Saga prefecture) and it is the birthplace of Japanese porcelain. Fired during the 18th century in the middle of the Edo period, that is one of the earliest examples. Ko-Imari (pre 1800 Imari)is quite rare and commands a relevant price tag... Recently sourced directly from Japan. Needless to say this is a collectors' piece! Condition Report: This vase is in excellent condition especially considering its age! There is a firing fault alongside some minor losses on the base of this vase (please see photos 7 and 8).

Some minor firing faults here and there which have resulted in minimal surface dents. But this is quite normal for Ko-Imari and most similar examples have serious flaws, including major cracks and losses. Not in this example though! The Karakusa pattern is (almost) intact.

Very hard to find a Ko-Imari Vase of this size in this condition! Should you need any additional info, please do not hesitate to ask me any questions. I would be very happy to assist you. Please study the photos provided as they form part of the description. Should you need more photos I would be very happy to provide you with them.

Then expanded to Chinese art pieces as well.

Hence, I have sought the expertise of a Native Japanese speaking Accredited Art Appraiser with nearly 3 decades of experience. I use his guidance alongside the description of accredited auctioneers to describe my lots and in line with similar known examples.
