A fine, sheer, silk damask antique late Edo uchikake featuring woven cranes, painted matsu-pine, ume-plum blossom which firmly places the scene in Japan. The inherent qualities of the materials, such as the lustrous off-white silk damask ground, and techniques used on this uchikake increase the reflection of light and lend great radiance to the auspicious landscape.
The trio of plum blossom, bamboo and pine are considered in Japan as the'three friends of winter' who are faithful to each other during difficult times. This is one of the best kimonos in terms of superior artistry, rarity and condition.
