ANTIQUE JAPANESE LATE EDO ERA (c. 1840) 7 DRAWER FUNA-DANSU SHIP'S CHEST TANSU
Kiri wood and used over 180 years ago in the late Edo Era c. There are are locks on every drawer. They have in time become inoperable and no key is necessary. This tansu chest is made of solid kiri. (paulownia) wood with pegged-tenon open-mortise corner box joint. All the hardware is hand forged iron with hirute (leech) style drawer pulls in a protective burnt lacquer finish. This chest has all its 180 year old. This tansu chest has a total of seven drawers of various sizes. All drawers move easily without binding, and it comes complete. This chest has nearly two centuries of old original. And, having been used lovingly over the centuries, it remains in fine original antique condition. And should serve one well for another century of use. It measures 22 1/4" wide by 23" high by 15 3/4 deep (56.5 x 58.5 x 40 cm).
