This is a rare and original antique book from 1800's Japan. Not a later 20th Century printing. Stitched Japanese traditionally bound cover. 56 sides of woodblock illustrations, in grey, pink, black, 15.9 x 24cm.

Very clean and bright covers and contents for the age and materials used. That said I was also told that there are many old variants of this printing and this could simply be a re-bound original 1st edition. It is in wonderful condition and is a wonderful original thing to own.

A small and accessible original piece of the Hokusai genius. In a protective mylar cover. A wide variety of Hokusai's drawing skills, illustrating his grand sense of humour, poking fun, his unique and charming style of showing people and things at their surprising realistic and often unbelievably strange situation.

People: Japanese Goddess, Deities, Buddhist monks, women, men, sword-swallowing and other acrobats, Samurai warriors, swords and armour, comic faces, bizarre people doing strange antics, with long arms & legs, long head, ghosts, ghouls, devils, scholars and literati. Scenery, landscape, natural surroundings, bridges, sampans etc. Animals: frog, horse, mice, goat, monkey, crane, mythological animals. Objects of worship and fear and others.
