SIMON TASHIMOTO (BORN 1946, JA P AN) MID-20TH CENTURY, VINTAGE OP-ART PENCIL GEO-ABSTRACT /MINIMALIST SIGNED COLOR SERIGRAPH'SPHERES,' EDITION #2/150, IN ORIGINAL MAT PRESENTATION & ORIGINAL POLISHED CHROME FRAME SIGNED. TITLED & EDITION # IN PENCIL. Japanese Modernist Geo-Abstract/Minimalist fine art/ printmaking. ¾" Height x 9" Width (Image). A simply gorgeous, late Modernist Japanese Minimalist/Geo-Abstract color serigraph by 20th century Japanese printmaker Simon Tashimoto, that really exemplifies Japanese Mid-20th century plastic tendencies and Modernist conceptual thrust in the mid 1960's to mid 1970's, where graphic iconography departed from the natural world and was self-representational, spare, pared back and Minimalist.

The'rule' at least conceptually, was'less-is-more' and this really sharp and visually pleasing Geo-Abstract color serigraph by Simon Tashimoto is an excellent example and clear representation of this Japanese period artistic current. Good to Very Good overall vintage condition. The entire presentation is the original one and hasn't been touched. The mat board that was used is not archival or 100% acid-free cotton rag and therefore has tanned and also has slightly tanned the edge of the color serigraph, where the mat board meets the artwork. Of course, the mat board should be swapped out for archival, 100% acid-free cotton rag mat board and re-framed, using the original, period, polished chrome metal frame, so the tanned edge of the print is then hidden by a slightly smaller mat board viewing window. We've elected not to do this to preserve the artwork's original frame presentation. It remains as it was discovered in the estate, untouched and undisturbed.
